The Lochezen site near Walenstadt covers 217,800 m² with buildings, apartments, natural areas and a former quarry. Geobrugg AG is testing modern quarry nets there. The local community has reappraised the historical significance of the quarry and offers exciting guided tours. Visitors can experience tunnels, caverns and relics of the former lime and cement quarry as well as an underground military hospital from the Second World War. The guided tours last around 2.5 to 3 hours, require sturdy shoes and warm clothing, and cost from CHF 300 per group.
