Bad Ragaz's rise to become a world health resort began in 1840, when the 36.5 degree thermal water from the Tamina spring was first piped from the Tamina gorge four kilometers out of the valley to Hof Ragaz. Famous spa guests such as Rainer Maria Rilke, Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, Thomas Mann and Victor Hugo subsequently paid their respects to the former farming village. Today, Bad Ragaz at the gateway to the canton of Graubünden is a modern spa resort with numerous leisure and health facilities. The focal point of the health oasis, which bears the Swiss quality label "Wellness Destination", is the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz with the public thermal spa Tamina Therme, restaurants, golf courses and a casino. Regular events such as the Bad RagARTz sculpture exhibition and cultural events round off the offer. "Around Bad Ragaz, the local mountain Pizol, the Bündner Herrschaft and the Tamina Valley with its numerous excursion possibilities are tempting.
