Tamina Gorge
The Tamina Gorge near Bad Ragaz offers a 450-metre-long, safe path to the spring water grotto. Here, 8000 liters of thermal water bubble up every minute from Europe's most productive acratothermal spring with a constant temperature of 36.5 °C.
A few meters from the Old Baths of Pfäfers is the entrance to the mystical thermal water spring gorge. The 450-meter-long, safe path leads through a tunnel into the interior of the rock, past a small thermal water fountain to the spring water grotto. The rock walls in the gorge tower up to 80 meters high along the way. In the spring water grotto, you can experience firsthand how around 8,000 liters of water per minute bubble out of the rock from Europe's most productive akratotherme. Researchers suspect that the water seeps away in the Tödi or Sardona area. It is heated until it returns to the surface in the Tamina Gorge after more than 10 years at a constant temperature of 36.5 °C.
