During a guided tour, you’ll gain fascinating insights into the history of the Pfäfers Gorge ( Taminaschlucht (Tamina Gorge) ) and the Old Baths of Pfäfers (Altes Bad Pfäfers). The knowledgeable guide will accompany you on a fascinating journey through the gorge and explain the history of how the thermal spring came to be. During the tour, you’ll learn a great deal about the centuries-old bathing culture and the importance of the thermal springs to the people. You’ll discover the water’s special healing properties and visit the Baroque bathhouse that shaped the region in the 17th century.

Notes

The tour takes place in all weathers
The tour is intended for adults. Children accompanied by an adult can take part at a reduced price.
Good footwear required. It can get wet in the gorge, we recommend appropriate clothing.
The tour is suitable for baby carriages
Afterwards you can visit the restaurant in the old Pfäfers baths

Booking

From May through October on select dates (Saturday or Sunday)
Tours will take place with a minimum of 4 adults (final decision by 12:00 p.m. the day before)
Online: until shortly before the tour begins, provided the tour hasn’t already been canceled the day before and provided there are still spots available
By phone: last-minute inquiries are possible (during business hours), provided the tour hasn’t already been canceled

Getting There: There is a general driving ban in effect for the Alte Bad Pfäfers. Access is only possible by PostBus, horse-drawn carriage, or on foot. Cars, bicycles, and e-scooters are prohibited along the entire route. Parking is available in Bad Ragaz at the Zentrum parking garage and the Tamina Therme/Casino, as well as at the Park&Rail facility near the Bad Ragaz train station. After that, you have two options: By bus: The Schluchtenbus departs every hour on the hour from Bad Ragaz train station and takes 15 minutes to reach the Old Baths of Pfäfers. Please note the Schluchtenbus’s lunch break; see the timetable. Additional stops include Bad Ragaz Post and Bad Ragaz Tobelbrücke.
On foot: From Bad Ragaz, hike along the car-free nature trail beside the wild and romantic Tamina River for about 1 hour to the Alte Bad Pfäfers. We’ve compiled additional suggestions for you here: Hiking suggestions
