Lake Walen

Lake Walen
Fjord-like lake between the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus in Heidiland. Directly accessible by train (including Unterterzen/Walenstadt); boats connect the lakeside towns. Highlights: car-free Quinten, Seerenbach Falls and the steep flanks of the Churfirsten.

Framed by the steep Churfirsten mountains and charming lakeside villages, Lake Walen is the alpine fjord of Heidiland - ideal for spontaneous swimming days and active excursions.

On the water, lidos, sunbathing lawns and quiet bays await; SUP and kayak hire, sailing, surfing and leisurely boat trips put guests right in the middle of the action. On land, the Walensee circular trail and panoramic high-altitude trails lead to classics such as the Seerenbach Falls/Betlis and car-free Quinten with its vineyards, fig trees and sun-drenched terraces.

Families will find playgrounds, stroller-friendly stretches of shoreline and short circular paths; connoisseurs can look forward to fresh fish and regional wines with a view of the lake.

Unterterzen is the gateway to the Flumserberg

The SeeJet gondola takes you to the mountains in minutes - in summer with hiking trails, bike trails, summer tobogganing and climbing opportunities, in winter to pistes, winter hikes and tobogganing fun.

Thanks to close public transport connections (train stations directly on the lake) and boat connections, water and mountain experiences can be flexibly combined - from a relaxing walk to an active day on and around the lake.
