Ruin Gräpplang

The Gräpplang ruins in Flums offer insights into medieval history. The well-restored walls and steps invite you to immerse yourself in times gone by and enjoy the view.
On the castle hill stand the ruins of the knight's castle, which became famous in the Middle Ages and was built by the Lords of Flums around 1220 on the "crap long", the "long rock". After several fiefdom owners, the castle fell to Zurich in 1419. It is destroyed by Glarus and Schwyz troops in 1440. Ludwig Tschudi buys the fortress in 1528, which has to be sold again in 1767 due to financial problems after a period of lively building activity. Several owners followed until the neglected castle was sold for demolition in 1804. In 1923, the municipality of Flums acquired, renovated and maintained the ruins.
The legends "Schloss Gräpplang" and "Der böse Burgherr" show that not all the lords of the castle were good lords. Both tell of a tyrant who took advantage of his subjects.
Enter the well-restored ruins and transport yourself back to earlier times. The walls and indented staircases give you a good impression of the castle. Enjoy the view from the large upper room. Here you will find a powerful place whose energy quality made it suitable as a place of worship. The place was certainly too strong for the inhabitants of the castle. If one of the evil lords of the castle dined here or even slept here, we can well imagine his imbalance, which developed into tyranny.
At the fireplace in the former castle courtyard you will find another place of power with cult qualities. The intensity of its energies is significantly higher than in the rest of the castle. Finds prove that the site has been visited by people since before the Neolithic Age.
