Church of St. Martin

Church of St. Martin
The church of St. Martin in Vättis, built in 1312, offers a special atmosphere and is a place of high energy. It is famous for the church consecration festival on St. James' Sunday with mass, music and a chilbi.
In 1312, the little church with its eternal light was built, with St. Martin, Bishop of Tours, who was popular with the people of Wals, as patron saint. As early as 1652, the eternal light had to be extinguished again as the population was forced to move to lower altitudes due to drastic climate change. Since then, the parish priest of Vättis has read a few masses in the chapel during the summer. As in the old days, on "Jakobi-Sunntig", the Sunday after St. Jakob (July 25), the church consecration festival takes place in St. Martin with mass, music and a chilbi. Pay attention to the special atmosphere that surrounds you when you enter the small chapel. Do you feel at ease? You are in a place of worship with high energies, but not only uplifting ones. Only remain seated in the pew for as long as you feel comfortable. Also walk around the chapel. What do you feel at the ossuary? It is said that the bones of giants were once stored here. But the giants also migrated when the climate cooled and the bones have disappeared.
